Robert DeNiro in Dubai for World Government Summit

The award-winning actor Robert DeNiro will return to Dubai to talk about climate change at the three-day event. Oscar-winning actor and activist will attend the World Government Summit, to be held from February 11 to 13. De Niro will speak at a Climate Change Forum in a segment called #ItAffectsYou. The attendance of DeNiro was announced by Thani Al Zeyoudi, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

“I’m glad to welcome my friend Robert De Niro to #Dubai next week as part of the Climate Change Forum during @WorldGovSummit. Interesting discussions coming up on the impacts of #ClimateChange on Human Prosperity #ItAffectsYou,” Al Zeyoudi tweeted.

The 74 year old actor was in Dubai earlier in 2016 to talk investment options in Antigua and Barbuda. In addition to being one of the most highly regarded actors of all time (with two Oscars to his name), he is also a venture capitalist — he has stakes in hotel and the Nobu Japanese restaurant group. He’s invested in, to the tune of $250 million (Dh918.2 million) — and will talk about it at the Destination Antigua and Barbuda conference at Dubai’s Versace Palazzo in his role as Special Economic Envoy.

The actor has been a harsh critic of US president Donald Trump and his stance on the enviroment. “Every day brings news about how we’re sprinting away from common sense and care for our planet,” he said at an event in New York last year.

The World Economic Forum will feature some of the world’s top thinkers and decision makers, including author Malcolm Gladwell, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde, Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and World Bank president Jim Kim, among others.
